Cobdown 2's 2 -2 Old Williamsonians 5's

OW's 5s were the first to christen the new Cobdown pitch, and a couple of OW's players took the opportunity to christen it in their own manner!! From the outset we could tell that this was going to be a very difficult game, as aerials and shots flew around the pitch from Cobdown. However, it was OWs who took the lead in the first half. Some battling from Harvey at the top of the D led the ball to fall to Josh Hatton to poke the ball home. I can't provide more details than this as I was on the floor and facing the wrong way! The opposition continued to knock on the door but were thwarted by the experience of Cheese and the endeavours of young Ahmed in goal. A few short corners were all dispelled to keep the lead intact until half time.
So far a good display by the 5s, and we were to be rewarded by a second goal in the second half as a shot from captain Gilham dribbled past the keeper. This seemed to get Cobdown rattled and they constantly peppered our goal from short corners and open play, and it was to be that they got their first with a firmly struck shot that fizzed in off the post. A little re-shuffling saw Harvey drop into midfield to try and sure things up a little, however OWs had their backs to the metaphorical wall and despite some valiant defending Cobdown eventually won a short corner off the unfortunate Steventon's foot which they were to convert.
The game ended with OWs slightly deflated, but in the end a fair result and a good one due to the quality of the opposition who are sure to be promoted from this division. Man of the Match = Tom Hatton (Josh Hatton got the same number of votes but they don't count as he's too good!)
