OW's Ladies Match Report - 15/10/16
Final result – 4-1 win to OW’s
OW’s ladies were up against Marden this week - these matches with Marden are always a close encounter so OW’s knew that they had to be at their best to beat them, and they didn’t disappoint as they looked lively, confident and were on the attack from the first whistle.
With new signing Christiana Kimitri making her debut up front with young starlet Emma Lambkin OW’s immediately started wave after wave of threats up front, which eventually resulted in Dawn Wallwork finding the net from close range. OW’s were buoyed with the lead and started to play some slick one-touch/two-touch hockey and didn’t allow Marden to settle. OW’s switched play down both wings and created some further chances but none were converted. OW’s went into the break 1-0.
After the rousing half time team talk by captain Becky Basso OW’s started the second half in the same vein as the first.
Almost immediately OW’s went 2-0 up when after some great team play involving a number of OW players Kimitri found herself one on one with the goalkeeper and bravely slotted home whilst being floored in the process. Kimitri then grabbed another in similar fashion taking the score to 3-0. OW’s were playing some great hockey, and in the last quarter of the game grabbed a fourth when player of the match Kimitri unselfishly slipped the ball to Emma Lambkin who fired home.
Marden grabbed a consolation goal in the dying minutes of the game, but the win was sealed. This was a great win for OW’s Ladies against a strong Marden team, and nothing less than OW’s deserved.
