Match Report 15-3-08

Sevenoaks 4           15      :       OW Ladies 2         0

Understanding that nothing could deter the OW's rollercoaster ride to Division 4, quite graciously they decided to allow Sevenoaks to absolutely kick their arses. Kate Fitton greatly aided Sevenoaks effort with a tremendous attempt to produce an own goal with a well placed 'header' of the ball.

But on a more interesting note, OWs went to the pub after the game, to commence intensive pre-tour training.

Match Report 23-2-08

Gore Court 2           4      :       OW Ladies 2         2

Without their regular goalie, Kate Fitton bravely stepped up to take the challenge and what a great job she did to, is there a position that she cannot play?

OW’s Ladies 2nd team came out full on the throttle and attacked straight away, Maria Koller-Willard put a great ball through to Paula Boarer who took it on her own to score the first goal of the match. Gore Court soon equalised from open play, a lucky slow rolling ball into the corner of the goal. Shortly after, a flick was awarded to Gore Court which was taken well and took them into the lead, they scored again just before half-time taking the score to 3-1.

OW’s came out strong and determined in the second half and was rewarded with a goal which Maria Koller-Willard slotted into the goal. Play followed end to end for the remainder of the game, with OW’s being awarded a penalty flick which the Gore Court keeper saved. Gore Court then scored a lucky fourth goal.

OW’s should feel proud of their performance today as the score did not reflect their great team play.

Match Report 2-2-08

Holcombe 3           4      :       OW Ladies 2         0

An extremely early start and sub-zero temperatures were conditions that did not suit OWs judging from the slow start. OW Ladies 2nd team struggled to find their structure and by half time were trailing by 3 goals to 0.

After an inspiring team talk at half time OWs played much better in the second half. Excellent defensive work by Helen Seymour, Donna McGrath, Kate Strevens and Kate Fitton held Holcs attack at bay, conceding only 1 goal in the second half. While at the other end of the pitch OWs midfield and attack were putting more pressure on the Holcs defence.

OWs best opportunity came late on, when player of the match Becky Simpson fed the ball into the D, where Maria Koller-Willard was waiting unmarked, unfortunately her superb strike ricochet off the post. With renewed vigour OWs continued to drive forward winning their first short corner of the match. OWs failed to convert this but they finished the match on a high.

Match Report 26-1-08

OW Ladies 2           2      :       Kings College         3

A competitive start to the match with end to end play resulted in Paula Boarer scoring the first goal for OWs. Unfortunately, OWs were unable to maintain this advantage and Kings College soon drew level with a goal from a short corner. Continued pressure from Kings College on the OWs defence lead to a succession of short corners before half time and the loss of another goal.

In the second half Kings College scored again in open play. However, OWs held their heads high and fought back strongly, resulting in Paula Boarer scoring her second goal of the day. OWs continued to push for a draw but unfortunately ran out of time!

The ladies 2nd team welcomed Becky Simpson who played her debut performance for the second team and her first game back since giving birth to her baby daughter in the summer last year.
