Training

Pre-season training begins in July, with dates usually posted on our homepage. Thereafter, weekly training sessions take place on Wednesday evenings from 7:00PM to 9:00PM on the school astro-pitch and involve a mixture of fitness work and skills coaching.

Junior Training is held on Sunday Mornings 10am to 12pm for Boys and Girls aged 6 to 16. All abilities are welcome. Training is split into age groups and training within those groups is provided on a group and an individual basis to suit all abilities.

OWHC enter into Kent Junior Leagues and this season will be running teams in the U14 and U16 leagues. Friendlies for younger players are arranged on a regular basis throughout the season. Any parents willing to act as Chauffeurs to away games are always welcome!

OWHC juniors participate in "STIX SKILLS", an award scheme run by English Hockey, which tests individual skills on basic elements of the game. The award scheme is aimed at children under the age of 16 and is free to enter. There is an opportunity each week for Junior players to have their skills tested and marked. At Christmas,  the results are sent to English Hockey and each participant receives a badge and a certificate of achievement. The scheme is an excellent way of improving skills throughout the season and rewarding the Juniors for their efforts.

If you are interested in coming along to training, just turn up at the clubhouse for a prompt 10am start on a Sunday. Training costs just £1-00 per week and a hockey stick can be provided if necessary. Suitable trainers for use on astroturf are required - no football boots. If you enjoy our training sessions, tell your friends and we will give you £1-00 back for each new participant you introduce!
